Hello Groovers,
Hope you are well and enjoying benefits of meditation.
A couple of months ago a certain Mr Zuckerberg announced the new brand name for his company, giving it the rather grandiose title of Meta. I was super intrigued by the title, because he seems to represent the absolute antithesis of what I consider ‘meta’ to be – which in its original Greek meaning, was used to describe something that was ‘beyond’ what exists.
Metaphysics for example, tends to refer to those phenomonologies that cannot be readily explained through the lens of rationality. It goes beyond the realm of what can be readily explained via our present understanding ….albeit once upon a time quantum mechanics would have seemed incredibly metaphysical!
I was also super intrigued to learn that the Silicon Valley cognoscenti seem to be absolutely convinced that we are now entering the era of The Metaverse, whereby everything becomes more and more eerily reminiscent of a Matrix style reality.
The thing that makes me chuckle is the fact that The Metaverse already exists. Its simply that most people don’t have the instrumentality to consciously detect it. However, for those who are more developed, and I’m glad to say there are increasing numbers of you who that would apply to, The Metaverse is a living reality as compelling (if not more so) than the rather narrow reality most people are confined to. And the beauty of it is, if you’re using advanced meditation techniques for beginners that focus on integrating these experiences into daily life, the more contact you have with it, the more appreciative you become of the material reality, and the more you find yourself meeting life in a highly engaged, more sensitised way.
The sweet irony is that Zuckerberg appears to be spearheading a metaverse that, if it follows the Social Media blueprint, is likely to desensitise folks and take people away from the living, breathing metaverse that already exists…into some artificially created universe where people can numb themselves from the uncomfortable realities they may otherwise face, which is risky to say the least.
We need to embrace change, and we probably need to embrace more risk as well, but let it be intelligent risk. And for me, the scions of Silicon Valley have shown themselves perfectly happy to favour profits, status and market share over the welfare of their audiences, so if we give our power away to them even more by embracing the artificial metaverse with abandon, we may find ourselves suckered into a massively unedifying detour in our life journeys.
But who knows, maybe they’ll surprise us. Maybe we’ll surprise ourselves by rejecting their fever dreams in favour of finally going profoundly deep into the mysteries of the universe, because one things for sure, we’ll get infinitely more fulfilment out of the latter pathway, than the former, because the original metaverse has seemingly arisen from an intelligence so profound it goes beyond all conception, whereas the latter will likely be constructed by those with skewed motives and limited intellects. I hope I’m wrong, but in the meantime, i’ll keep connecting with the Original Metaverse, and I’ll happily let the west coast early adopters have their fun, and see where they get to while we dish out technology that gives people more fruitful access.
Obviously if you guys ever want to take a journey with us, and see how far the rabbit hole goes, you know where to find us 😉
