Immunosuppression
The immune system is the body's defense against infectious organisms and other invaders that cause disease. Too much stress damages the immune system and stops it functioning properly. This leaves us far more susceptible to catching bugs, and makes it much harder to fight them off. Beeja meditation helps to give your immune system a boost by radically reducing stress.
- The problem
During a stressful event, our immune response spikes up, which makes sense if we are about to be attacked by a lion. Most stress isn’t life or death any more though.
And what goes up must come down. If we regularly put our immune responses on high alert, we usually find that when they fall again, they fall too far; overshooting the baseline and becoming suppressed to an abnormal range of 40 – 70% below normal functioning.
So, if we are working way too hard, or running around constantly trying to meet deadline, or are coping with unhealthy dose of psychological stress in our lives, then our immune function will become compromised.
